Our 'Simple Light' raised bed truly lives up to its name. With its compact dimensions and light weight, it is a great choice, especially for anyone taking their first steps into growing their own vegetables and herbs. Easy delivery, simple assembly and top quality from solid mountain larch with a galvanised foundation frame make this raised bed stand out. Ideal for use on patios and balconies, too. Soon, bending and kneeling will be a thing of the past, and your back will thank you for working upright!

  • No ground contact thanks to the galvanised foundation frame
  • High stability thanks to sturdy corner posts and 21 mm tongue-and-groove larch boards
  • Long service life thanks to the food-safe dimpled liner on the inside
  • Easy to transport
  • Available as an option: prevent slug infestations with a slug barrier on the top rail

Why choose a raised bed?

  • Stand upright while you work.
  • Optimal nutrient conditions mean better yields. Layering organic materials creates optimal nutrient conditions.
  • Better yields thanks to the heat generated by decomposition. This is created by the layered structure. The layer of organic materials, which can be up to 80 cm thick, generates heat. This makes it possible to start growing earlier and harvest for longer.
  • You also produce valuable compost that you can reuse in your garden later.

Materials and workmanship

Our 'Simple Light' raised bed has a filling height of 70 cm. It is made from locally sourced mountain larch. Larch is suitable for outdoor use, as it is highly resistant to wind and weather. The foundation frames are carefully galvanised. There is no contact with the ground, so no rot develops and the herbs and plants stay fresh for longer. This raised bed is exceptionally sturdy thanks to its steel foundation frames. Optional additional protection is available in the form of a slug barrier on the top rail.

Included in the delivery

  • Dimpled liner: A dimpled liner is also included and is fitted to the inside of the side walls. The liner seals the raised bed and prevents the organic material from coming into contact with the wood.
  • All screws
  • Step-by-step assembly instructions
  • Available with a slug barrier: fitted underneath the top rail

Material

The larch wood comes from Austria and has long been a popular choice for outdoor use. Larch grows at high altitudes in the Alpine region and is particularly suitable for use in wind and weather. Larch wood contains many natural substances and resins, which help extend its service life and durability. The galvanised steel foundation is unique in Europe. It prevents direct contact between the soil and the wood, thus preventing rot from affecting the raised bed. The foundation also features a slug barrier that naturally and gently keeps these unwelcome visitors away from your plants.

How do I fill my raised bed?

  • Once the raised bed has been assembled and the vole guard fitted, you can fill it.
  • At the very bottom, add a wood core about 25 cm thick—branches, twigs, shrub clippings or even tree roots. Cover with a little soil.
  • Add a layer of wood chips about 10–15 cm thick. Use thin branches or finely chopped wood. Add a layer of cardboard to speed up the start of decomposition.
  • Add about 10–15 cm of decomposed stable manure or horse manure.
This can also be replaced with partially decomposed compost.
  • Add about 20 cm of coarse compost or soil.
  • Finally, fill to the top with garden soil.
