The hatchet is used for cutting and chopping. Unlike an axe, its handle is only half as long, so it can be used with one hand. It is versatile for outdoor use and delivers excellent results despite its relatively compact size. Thanks to its rounded poll—also known as the striking face—the hunter’s hatchet is ideally suited for skinning game. The metal can be gripped securely at both the front and back, and the sharp blade can be used like a large knife. The hunter’s hatchet makes quick work of skinning an animal.
This handy hatchet is also ideal for everyday work in the hunting grounds and for smoothing tree trunks. Its medium-length handle and light weight make it easy to stow in a backpack.

The handle

The hatchet handle is made of ash wood and is ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand and make work easier. The rounded poll enables particularly effort-saving use. Ash, a premium raw material, grows throughout much of Europe, especially in the northern Alpine foothills, and is one of the most important hardwoods. The wood is very dense and hard, yet its high elasticity makes it easy to work with. (while still having the elasticity needed to be worked easily) Thanks to its excellent mechanical properties, ash is an ideal wood for high-quality garden and outdoor tools. It is sturdy and durable, as well as pleasant to the touch. The wood is varnished to protect it against moisture and dirt.
 

The hatchet blade

The blade is made of hand-forged Swedish steel, which is exceptionally durable and robust thanks to its special treatment. The sharp, precise edge delivers accurate results from the very first use.

Please note: For safety reasons, we are unable to deliver our cutting and chopping tools fully sharpened.
Maintaining the edge is especially important for handmade tools—we have put together detailed instructions for peening and honing.
